Canning Classes

Our Canning Boot Camp is not just essential for every new canner, but tons of fun, too! Great gift to give yourself and your friend or spouse! Better yet, pick your own date organize a Girls’ (or Guys) Night Out! (Minimum six students.) $80 per student; $150 for two “canning buddies” who sign up together on the website. One-day classes include a delicious lunch. 2-night classes include appetizers using the jam you create! See below for cannery address, please.

The Canning Boot Camp is a prerequisite for the Master’s Classes. Master’s Classes address complicated recipes and techniques and range between $25 and $40 per class.

Class size is limited. No classes are taught during August, September, or December. Both types of classes include all your materials - just dress for cooking! Canning equipment and books are available at reasonable prices -- you can be canning the next day!

Canning classes are taught at our Summer Kitchen located at 1941 Hart Road, Lebanon, Ohio. Classes are by reservation, only. Please call if it is close to the class date to check on availability.

All students must be 18 years of age or older. Sorry, handicapped facilities are not available at our Lebanon location. Please call for handicap accessible venues.

   
Canning Boot Camp (Full Day)
$80.00

This 6-hour, one-day Boot Camp is geared toward folks who’ve never touched a homemade jar of jam, as well as the novice who isn’t afraid to try canning but would like a solid background in the why’s, what’s, and how’s of canning. We cover a bit of physics, a spoonful of microbiology, buckets of food safety, plus a huge dollop of canning wisdom.

During this hands-on class, students cook and can Strawberry Jam (a water-bath recipe) and Glazed Carrots (a pressure-canner recipe). Lunch is provided, and we have a snack time or two so we can all sample the delicious goodies you’ve created. Each student takes home two jars of their own making! Out-of-town folks who need lodging are invited to consider The Silver High B&B in Lebanon (513-228-2200).

The Canning Boot Camp is a prerequisite for the Master’s Classes.

$80 ($150 for canning buddies)
Please Note: Boot camp fees are nonrefundable, but a student can move to a different date if they inform us at least two weeks before the class starts. That gives us time to fill the empty spot. We can only accept 10 students at once because it is so important to keep it hands-on.

Master Canning Class

Master’s Classes address complicated recipes and techniques. Their prices may vary depending on the amount of materials used. Class size is limited. Beginner Canning Classes must be completed before attending a Master Canning Class.

Preserving Pickles -

For those “graduates” of our Boot Camp, we have some fun advanced canning classes to offer you this spring! First, “Preserving Pickles!” will feature Chad’s Bread and Butters, and Dilly Beans. If you met our Chad at your Boot Camp Class, you know that Chad is crazy about making inventive marmalades and pickles! His pickle recipe is to die for, yet quite simple. Dilly Beans are easy to make and delicious on sandwiches, salads, or threaded on a stirrer for your favorite Bloody Mary.

Tomatoes Three Ways -

Finally, in preparation for bountiful summer gardens, we’ll be teaching “Tomatoes Three Ways” again! For those of you who want to pressure can tomatoes, but desire more than just plain tomatoes, this class is for you. I haven’t finalized all the ways we’ll attack tomatoes in this class, but I always settle on a fun combination of ethnic recipes. We’ll also include recipes for those tomatoes, so you’ll have easy meals to look forward to next winter!

Making and Canning with Limoncello

This delicious Italian liqueur is perfect for sipping ice-cold in the back yard! It's also fun to add it to fruits to spice up jams a bit! This class fills up fast (just sayin').

- Tomatoes 3-Ways: Tuesday, May 1, 6:30p.m.–9:00p.m. ($25)
- Making and Canning with Lemoncello: Wednesday, May 9, 6:30p.m.-9:00p.m.($25)
